Mixed Media Envelopes + Tutorial + a few tips

Hello Everyone!

2017 is almost coming to an end and here's wishing you all a very Happy New Year!!! May this new year bring immense happiness and good luck to all of you!

I'm sure that you all must have loved the new Dots and Stripes paper pack from Dress My Craft, I love this paper pack for my sheer love for polkas and stripes and also the fact that this paper pack has an awesome watercolor effect to each and every pattern in this pack. There is another paper which I truly loved in the pack and that was the distress brown shade that this paper pack has to offer. This superbly designed shabby distress shade is truly wonderful!!

I had designed a mixed media envelop using this paper pack and have a little tutorial for you as well. Lets checkout first the complete project.

This is a picture heavy post with lots of images of the final project, stay glued!

Off late, I decided to do my Dress My Craft posts dedicated to Mixed Media, which is a little alien concept to me, but I'm so glad that I made this decision which is giving me opportunities to try this wonderful art form out! I'm so loving Mixed Media, so be prepared for lots more from my end!

I have used the 12*12 Dots and stripes paper pack

Here is a step by step tutorial on how I made these mixed media envelopes.

1. Take a pattern paper from the 12*12 paper pack and cut to 9*10 inches, Score at 2.5 inch and 6.5 inches. Also score at 1 inch on both the opposite sides.
Check the diagram below to view the scoring positions.

Now, cut off top and bottom portions from the 1" score marks, from both the top and the bottom and glue together the flaps. The protuding top and below panel becomes the closure and the opening for your envelopes.
Glue the closure also and leave the other end which will act as the flap of the envelop.

Your envelop base is ready.

2. Gather all you embellishments and supplies that you would use to decorate the envelopes.
I chose 2 different shades for the envelopes and will be making 2 of these. Along with the stripes background, I'm using the Pink polka paper in contrast with the stripes.

Did you check the jeweled chains that are a new addition in the Dress My Craft family?? These are just plain gorgeous!

Lets get rolling and arrange the embellishments as per your choice

3.  Here is a little picture of the in-between process of making these tags.
The arrangement is almost done and I would be doing some final touches to the envelopes now.

Checkout the gorgeous jeweled chain beneath!! It truly can elevate the complete project.
Here's a TIP:
The other thing I love doing in Mixed Media is the splattering and adding a few final touches with gesso. Adding a few touches of white gesso on the flowers and also a little white spattering of this color can elevate the whole project to a different level. I also added a few splatters of black ink to give it more of a shabby look.

Here are the final pictures.

Here how's the envelope can contain cash and I find these pretties much worthwhile to gift in the weddings and other ceremonies. These made for a nice handout instead of the usual boring plain envelopes.

Here is a closeup of the flowers and the arrangement!

Another Tip, build up layers.. layering adds up a lot of dimension and make the project look more uber and the arrangement looks more fuller and complimenting.

I hope you liked the envelopes and these will sure inspire to make a few for yourself. The wedding season is coming and it's time to give your cash in style!
